Emma was delighted to have sung for the opening of the 145th anniversary exhibition of Njord Rowing Club in Leiden, the Netherlands. She sang the Njord song, “De hand aan de riemen gij zonen van Njord.” The exhibition, which details the history of the club, is at the Old University Library at Rapenburg 70. Emma will give a concert with pianist Han-Louis Meijer at the private members’ club “De Witte” in The Hague, the Netherlands. They will present music from and about the Second World War. Lieutenant Colonel Wouter Hagemeijer will give a short reading about the role of the Netherlands in D-Day.

On Saturday, 25th May, Emma will sing during the Get Lost Festival in Leiden, the Netherlands. The ‘Get Lost’ festival is a feat of creativity, with music, art, food, and readings. Emma will perform Schumann’s setting of ‘Frauenliebe une -leben” with pianist Willeke Smits at Marktsteeg 10, the gallery of Casper Faassen.

On Sunday, 19th May, Emma will sing as a guest soloist with Capella Vocale in a concert of sacred and secular music from the British Isles. Emma will perform plainsong from the Sarum Rite (the original chant of Salisbury Cathedral), English and Welsh folksongs, and Michael Head’s “The Singer,” an unaccompanied Art Song.
The choir will sing works by Byrd, Elgar, Rutter, Tavener, Tomkins and Weelkes, with conductor Monique Schendelaar.
Emma is delighted to be working with Capella Vocale again. In 2016, the choir commissioned Emma to compose music for Bart Moyaert’s poem “Nu.” The work was premièred on 8thOctober, 2016, to mark the choir’s twenty year anniversary.

On 12th May Emma will be the guest soloist with the Leidse Cantorij for a concert of music based on the Song of Songs. The programme includes motets, cantatas, and anthems from the sixteenth century onwards, with works by Palestrina, Monteverdi, J.C. Bach, Böhm, Buxtehude, Finzi, Baristow, and Ireland. The choir are conducted by Hans Brons, and Willeke Smits will play the organ.

With Glider Pilot Ronald Johnson in Normandy in 2017. Ronald is keen to teach children the importance of avoiding conflict in order to create a peaceful world.
On 23rd September, 1944, three British aeroplanes crashed in Heteren, the Netherlands. They were serving as part of the allied operations agains the occupation of the Netherlands during the Second World War. All twenty-one crew members died in the crash, and they are buried in the village cemetery.
For the last seventy-five years, the residents of the village have gather on 4th May, Dutch remembrance day, to commemorate the airmen and thank them for the risk they took to free the area.
In recent years, British Airborne veterans, traveling with the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, have been guests of honour at the ceremony. Last year, Glider Pilot Ronald Johnson, who served during Operation Market Garden, address the local children. He said: “Live in friendship with each other, then you have no reason to seek confrontation with each other.”
Emma will sing ‘Amazing Grace’ during the wreath-laying at this beautiful ceremony.
