General Ted Meines

Ted Meines Emma BrownOn Sunday, 25th September, Emma Brown sang in a surprise concert for the ninety-fifth birthday of Lieutenant-General Sir Ted Meines.

General Meines played a significant role in the Dutch resistance during the second world war, helping Jewish children escape the Nazi regime. In 2015, he was made an honorary citizen of Israel in acknowledgement of his work. He has worked with veteran organizations across the Netherlands and in organizing the memorials of the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945.

Kędzierzyn-Koźle Tattoo, Poland

Emma Brown Kędzierzyn-KoźleOn 17th and 18th September, Emma will sing in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Poland, as part of their International Military Tattoo and liberation festival. Emma will perform alongside bands from Poland, Hungary, Ukraine and Budapest.

O Lux Beata Trintas

light-rays-through-stained-glass_-y-ubebzh__M0000Emma Brown’s composition, “O Lux Beata Trinitas” is once again in the repertoire of the Leidse Cantorij. It was sung as an introit at Evensong in the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam on 4th September and it will be sung in the Hooglandse Kerk in Leiden on 18th September.

Emma composed the short piece in 2013 during her Master’s in composition at the Royal Conservatoire, the Hague, the Netherlands. It has been sung widely in the Netherlands and in Peterborough Cathedral, United Kingdom, in 2014.

Open Monument Day 2016, Breda, the Netherlands

Emma Brown KMAOn Sautrday, 10th September mezzo-soprano Emma Brown will sing in Breda for the city’s Open Monument Day.

Open Monument Day is an annual event in which historic buildings and moments are open to the public, free of charge. The fortified, medieval city of Breda attracts many visitors on Open Monument Day who can explore its significant architectural heritage.

Emma will give two short concerts on the market square at 12:00 and 14:30 with the Band of Liberation and conductor Simon Dubbelaar. The Band will parade from the KMA (the Dutch Royal Military Academy) to the city centre at 11:30 and 14:00.

The Belfast Tattoo, 2016

singer Emma Brown Belfast TattooOn 1st, 2nd and 3rd September, mezzo-soprano Emma Brown will appear as a guest soloist at the Belfast Tattoo at the SSE Arena, Belfast. She will sing “Going Home” and “I’m Dreaming of Home” to mark the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

The BBC will be recording the tattoo to broadcast highlights on a later date on BBC Northern Ireland.

TRIS reunion: Surinamese veterans

On Saturday, 27th August, Emma Brown sang at the reunion of Dutch colonial soldiers from Surinam (TRIS). This was a moving day in which veterans reunited and remembered their experiences and the friends they had lost. Emma sang with the Band of Liberation under conductor Simon Dubbelaar during the presentation of medals to veterans.

Oxford University Brass Band

Oxford-University-Circlet.svgOn 3rd July, singer Emma Brown will appear as a guest soloist at a joint concert of Oxford University Brass Band and the Band of Liberation. This is part of Oxford University Brass Band’s Europe tour, which marks the band’s ten year anniversary. Their visit to Oxford also reflects the twinning between Leiden and Oxford. The two bands will perform from 15:00-17:00 at the Koetshuis in Leiden.
