Singing for Dutch Veterans

On Sunday, 11th December, Emma Brown will give a private concert at the Dutch Veterans’ Institute in Doorn, the Netherlands. She will perform a range of Christmas and light music for Dutch war veterans. Emma will be accompanied by the Band of Liberation with conductor Simon Dubbelaar.

On Saturday, 10th December, Emma Brown will appear as a guest soloist at the International Military Tattoo at ECC Leiden, the Netherlands. There are two performances: the first being a charity performance for disabled children and adults, the second being open to the general public.

Emma will sing the finale together with nine massed bands and the Dutch Royal Air Force Male Voice Choir. Other performers include Ritmische Gymnastiek Wilskracht from Holland’s Got Talent, and internationally-acclaimed Irish dancers.

King Arthur, the pantomime

15284047_10211343976539269_1008060560533162044_nOn 2nd, 3rd and 4th December, Emma Brown will perform as King Arthur in the annual expatriate pantomime at ‘Theater aan het Spui’ in The Hague, the Netherlands, organised by the Anglo-American Theatre Group. 

The pantomime was written by Michael Connelly and is directed by Kyle Buijs.

Remembrance Day, 2016

Emma Brown Ieper YpresOn 10th and 11th November, 2016, Emma Brown joined the West Yorkshire Police Band with conductor Alan Jazwinski in Ypres to sing at the Armistice Day Remembrance Services.

She sang “Abide With Me” at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate on 10th and 11th November. On 11th November, she also sang at a remembrance ceremony at Tyne Cot Military Cemetery and at a small concert for the people of Messines. Magnificat

kerkmuziekdag_2016_poster_web-page0-213x300On Saturday, 5th November, Emma gave a short lecture on “Composing a Magnificat” for the Leiden Church Music Day. This was a study day about the Magnificat, with readings, lectures and singing.

Emma also sang as a soloist in a short performance of Bach’s Magnificat with pianist Maarten Boonstra, Con Amore choir and conductor Bernhard Touwen.

Emma’s presentation focused on the process of setting text to music. She described her personal approach to the Magnificat. A recording of her composition can be heard here, sung by the Pancras Consort with organist Geerten van de Wetering and conductor Hans Brons.

First World War Remembrance Concert

dodenherdenking kloetingeOn 22nd October, 2016, Emma Brown will give a concert in the Geerteskerk in Kloetinge, Zeeland, the Netherlands, as part of the celebrations of the town’s liberation. Zeeland was heavily affected by the First World War. Towns such as Kloetinge still celebrate their freedom.

Nu: A composition commission from Capella Vocale

NU premiereOn Sunday, 9th October, Emma Brown’s composition “Nu” will be premiered by Capella Vocale. Emma was approached by the choir to compose a short piece for their twenty-year anniversary from the poem Nu by Belgian poet Bart Moeyaert.

The concert includes Vivaldi’s Gloria and Bach’s Singet dem Herrn.

The concert begins at 15:00. It is in the Lutherse Kerk in Leiden, the Netherlands. Tickets are available at the door or via penningmeester@capellavocale.nl.
