Each year, the Protestant community in Leiden hosts two huge annual carol services in the Pieterskerk. The Pieterskerk is famous as the church of the “Pilgrim Fathers.” Pastor John Robinson, who travelled with the Pilgrims to the Netherlands, is buried there. He was too ill to sail with them to America on the Mayflower and he died in 1625.

The Pieterskerk is also known locally as the location in which the Protestant citizens of Leiden went to give thanks after the siege of Leiden ended in 1574.

The Christmas Eve services are open to all.
